LOCAL EMERGENCY! - COVID-19

The Building Inspection Division reviews construction documents, issues building permits, and conducts inspections on most construction projects within the City of Newark.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION DURING COVID-19 SHELTER-IN-PLACE ORDERS:

Due to the most recent Shelter-in-Place Orders from the Alameda County Health Department and the Governor’s Office, City offices remain CLOSED to public through at least May 31, 2020.  The health, safety and well-being our staff, customers and the Newark community remains our highest priority during this unprecedented time.  However, the Building Inspection Division will attempt to provide as many ongoing plan review and inspection services as reasonably possible.  This includes:

  • Inspections will made on permitted projects remotely, if possible. All other inspections shall be conducted on-site as long as the safety protocols per the Order are being followed.
  • Electronic plan review
  • Electronic permit and payment processing

The current Shelter-in-Place Order has specific requirements for small and large construction projects. Please see the checklists below for reference.
