Police OfficerLocation: Newark Police DepartmentA Newark Police Officer patrols within fixed sectors of the City. Officers investigate all criminal complaints and handle other calls for service from the community. Officers work a 3 day/12-½ hour work schedule. The Newark Police Officer enjoys a variety of specialized assignments including Detectives, Traffic Unit, Canine Unit, School Resource Officer (SRO), and the Southern Alameda County Narcotics Enforcement Team (SACNET). APPLICATION PROCESS: All applicants must fill out both a City of Newark Job application and an Applicant's Statement. Lateral Transfer applicants must possess a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate and have been employed as a peace officer in the State of California within the past 12 months. Academy Graduate applicants must have successfully completed a California P.O.S.T. certified academy and have a current P.O.S.T. Basic Academy certificate. Academy Attendee applicants must provide proof of current enrollment in a P.O.S.T. Basic Academy (ie. letter on Academy letterhead with dates of enrollment clearly indicated). Police Officer Trainee (Entry-Level) applicants must provide verification of successful completion of the P.O.S.T. Police Officer Written Exam and the Physical Abilities Exam. The applicant must have a "T-Score" of 46 or higher on the written examination. This certification may be obtained through the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium. You must call them in advance at 408-270-6458 to schedule a date and time to take the exam. Be sure to let them know that you are taking the exam for the City of Newark. The written and physical abilities certification must be dated within 12 months of the Oral Board Exam. All Applicants must possess the following qualifications:
A copy of your P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate or Academy Certificate (Lateral Transfer and Academy Graduate), or proof of current enrollment in an academy (Academy Attendee), or Written and Physical Abilities Exam Certificate (PO Trainee) must be attached to your application. The City of Newark is an Equal Oppurtunity Employer. FINAL FILING DEADLINE: Applications for Lateral Transfer, Academy Graduates, Academy Attendees and Trainees will be accepted on a continuous basis and may close at any time. SELECTION PROCESS: Applications will be screened for completeness. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be classified to the appropriate recruitment level. Depending upon the current staffing needs of the department, candidates will be invited to an oral board exam (passing score: 70%). Qualified candidates will be notified when the Oral Board Exam is scheduled (scheduled on an as needed basis).
