Lieutenant Shearn was hired as a Police Officer in August 1986. Five years later, she was promoted to Police Sergeant and then was promoted to Lieutenant in July 2003.
She held various positions as an officer, including being a member of the Special Enforcement Unit and Hostage Negotiation Team. She was one of the first DARE officers for the City and was a School Resource Officer at both Newark Memorial High School and Newark Junior High prior to her promotion to Sergeant.
While serving as a Sergeant, she was responsible for various programs including Patrol, Field Training Officers, Hostage Negotiation Team, Police Explorers, Animal Control, Vehicle Abatement, and the Trauma Response Team. She was also responsible for patrol scheduling and served as an Acting Division Commander for the Detective Division.
Lieutenant Shearn earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from California Coast University and is currently enrolled in a Masters program for Business Administration. She is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
As a Lieutenant, she has managed the Detective Division, Information Systems, Professional Standards, Records, Communications, Traffic, and Personnel and Training. She is currently responsible for the Patrol Division, including Field Training, Range/Firearms, Community Preservation, Vehicle Abatement, Animal Control, Graffiti Abatement Volunteers, and the Criminal Evidence Response Team.
