Lieutenant Milner was hired February 19, 2002. Lieutenant Milner came to Newark with 18 years of law enforcement experience. His last assignment was as a patrol Sergeant/Watch Commander with the Sausalito Police Department, 1995-2002, where his duties included patrol watch commander, director of numerous Citizen Police Academies, and having the charge of numerous community policing programs.
Prior to being hired by Sausalito, Lieutenant Milner served with the Berkeley Police Department, 1985-1995, where he rotated through a variety of assignments in the Patrol, Narcotics and the Investigations Divisions. Lieutenant Milner has served as a division commander for both operations and administration along with being the SWAT commander while in Newark.
Lieutenant Milner graduated from San Ramon Valley High School in Danville, and went on to earn an AA degree from Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill. Lieutenant Milner graduated with a B.A. degree in 1983 from California State University Chico, where he majored in Criminal Justice. Lieutenant Milner is a graduate of St. Mary’s College, having graduated with honors with a Master’s degree in Leadership for the Public Sector. Lieutenant Milner is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 2006. Lieutenant milner is an instructor with the University of Phoenix, teaching courses within the Criminal Justice program.
Lieutenant Milner enjoys spending time with his family, coaching, reading, being involved in his community, along with many outdoor activities in his leisure time. Lieutenant Milner believes strongly in community oriented policing and problem solving.
