Recreation Programs and Facilities

Newark Recreation and Community Services is committed to offering fun, healthy activities and encouraging healthful living for our community, from preschool to seniors. To view a description of our many exciting classes and programs, or to register for recreation programs and activities, see our Activities Guide. Effective May 1st, 2008, we are no longer able to take registrations over the phone. Registrations can be done during limited hours at any of our centers (below), online, by mail, or by fax.

The Silliman Activity Center (phone 510-578-4400) (entrance fees) offers a variety of entertainment for all ages:


The Silliman Family Aquatic Center (phone 510- 578-4620) . Pool Features and information:

  • 45'x75' Activity Pool with zero depth entry and water play structure
  • 25 yard 4 Lane Lap Pool with depth of 42" at the end and 54" at the center
  • 245' Lazy River complete with inner tubes to ride on
  • 15 person warm-water spa; size 18' by 13' with depth of 42"
  • 2 Water Slides with the tower rising 20 feet above the pool deck; one slide is a full chute and 1 slide is a half chute, guest must be at least 48" to ride
  • Men's and Women's locker rooms with showers, restrooms and baby changing stations as well as family changing rooms.
  • Otter Alley Cafe (menu items such as pizza, nachos, burritos, smoothies, pretzels and churros) - - - cafe/party menu packages
  • Group Reservations are available for pool entrance (minimum of 20 guests). - - - group information - - - group reservation form
  • Private Swim Lessons (for all ages) to help identify areas and focus on stroke improvement, cost is: Newark Resident $36.00 for one 1/2 hr. lesson or $144.00 for five 1/2 hr. lessons. Newark non-Resident fee: $38.00 for one 1/2 hr. lesson or $151.00 for five 1/2 hr. lessons. Fall Registration for private lessons will begin August. 1; priority is given by the date/time that the private registration forms are received until this program is full. Scheduling will begin September 8, in order that requests are received. FALL IS CURRENTLY FULL

The Newark Community Center (phone 510-578-4437) offers a variety of programs and classes for adults, seniors, and children of all ages, including year round Licensed Child Care and Preschool for 3-5 year olds, Summer Day Care for school age children, holiday and cultural programs, as well as rental of the facility.

The Newark Senior Center (phone 510-578-4840) offers a variety of drop-in activities such as billiards, classes, daily lunch, transportation, case management services, and many other activities and services as well as rental of the facility.
