Special Weapons and Tactics Team
The Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) is comprised of two specialized teams: the Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) and the Special Weapons and Tactics Team. The unit provides specialized support in handling critical field operations where intense negotiations and/or special tactical deployment methods beyond the capacity of field officers appear necessary. The SWAT team is a designated unit comprised of law enforcement officers having specialized training and equipment to work as a coordinated unit to resolve critical incidents that are so hazardous, complex, or unusual that they may exceed the capabilities of the first responders or investigative units. The unit is deployed when hostage taking, barricaded subjects, snipers, terrorist acts, high risk search/arrest warrants,or when community and officer safety issues warrant the use of such a unit.
