Police Officer’s Association

The Police Officer's Association sponsors annual fundraising events in Newark such as Tip-a-Cop in support of Special Olympics. If you ever want to see a sport played for the pure sprit of the game, or watch a group that wants to achieve, compete, and support one another, plan on attending the Special Olympics Games! These athletes train all year just to compete for these two days. Special Olympics Games would not be possible if not for the support of fundraising efforts. For more information on donations, support, or participation please contact Officer Nick Mavrakis at (510) 578-4778.

Newark's finest will participate in a Tip-A-Cop event being held at Red Robin (NewPark Mall) this Saturday from 4pm-8pm.  Members of the police department will assist servers during the evening to raise money for the Special Olympics.  Come join us for this very worthwhile cause!

UPDATE (April 19, 2010) - Thank you to all of our police department staff and family as well as to our Olympians who volunteered their time on Friday evening.  Thanks also to those of you who came out to dine and support this cause.  This event was a huge success and we raised over $1,800 for Special Olympics!

We have two more events coming up in case you couldn't make it this time:

On Saturday, May 1st from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. we will have a booth set up in front of Home Depot on Thornton Avenue (right off Hwy 880) for the public to meet and greet Newark's finest, as well as some of our Special Olympians.  We will also have Patrol vehicles and custom cars such as a Bumble Bee Camaro like the one in the movie, "Transformers," and a Delorean of "Back to the Future" fame on display.

UPDATE (May 20, 2010) - Another Tip-A-Cop event is scheduled for Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Chevy's (5605 Mowry School Road, across from the Hilton) in Newark.  Please come by between 6:00-9:00 p.m. to dine and help support our Special Olympians who are looking forward to participating in the upcoming Summer Games in Davis.   Hope to see you there!

Please join us on Saturday, March 26, 2011 between the hours of 11am-8pm at Red Robin (Newpark Mall) to help support the Special Olympics.  Police department staff will assist servers and collect "tips" for this great cause.  Hope to see you there!

UPDATE (March 30, 2011) - Thanks to all of our police department volunteers, as well as the Special Olympics athletes, who joined us on Saturday.  Despite the tough economy, we raised over $4,300 for this very worthwhile cause.  We appreciate all of our donors ($2 to $500) and would like to thank them for making this event a successful one!

The Special Olympics "Bagging for Bucks" campaign held at Food Maxx was tremendous success.  A number of NPD officers, explorers, and support staff volunteered their time and raised over $2,100 for this wonderful cause.  Special Olympians Stephanie, Sara, Shane, and Joey were also on hand to assist, as well as greet members of the public.

Thanks to all of our police personnel who came out to volunteer to assist servers at the NewPark Mall Red Robin in a fundraising effort for the Special Olympics of Northern California.  A total of over $3,100 was donated for this very worthwhile cause.  Special Olympics athletes Debbie, Aaron, Bill, and Roger were also in attendance and they enjoyed talking to patrons about their accomplishments and what this program means to them.  We also had officers stationed outside of the restaurant engaging mall guests and showing off our patrol vehicle to adults and kids alike.  A good time was had by all and we appreciate Red Robin's corporate-wide participation in this cause.
