Our R.A.V.E.N. volunteers are:

READY

Trained and committed volunteers ready to respond and serve the community without delay or hesitation and willing to assist the department by providing resources to the community.

ACTIVE

Energetically and actively working toward the department's goals by responding to community needs and supporting additional operational services for the community.

VOLUNTEERS

Individuals who voluntarily reach out to the community by aiding, providing, assisting and participating in activities that enhance the quality of life to the residents in our community.

ENGAGED

Enthusiastically committed to engaging and partnering with the community through outreach and Crime Prevention Programs.

NEWARK

Supporting a quality community whose beauty is matched by the convenience of its location and by the outstanding citizens who reside in Newark.

 

 

Volunteer Positions -

R.A.V.E.N. volunteers may work in a variety of assignments within the Police Department dependent upon department need. Assignments may include:

  • Patrol
  • Traffic
  • Community Engagement
  • Graffiti Abatement
  • Administration

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications have been established for acceptance into the R.A.V.E.N. volunteer program, which includes:

  • Minimum age - 18 years old
  • Currently live or work in Newark
  • Graduate of the Newark Police Department's Citizen Police Academy (preferred)
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation
  • Fingerprint clearance (FBI/DOJ)
  • Possess a valid California Driver's License (if driving is required for assignment)
  • Be in satisfactory medical condition - submit to and pass a medical exam
  • Complete an in-house training program (Approx 60 hours)
  • Ability to commit 10 hours per month to the program
  • Make a long-term committment to the program (a minimum of one year after training)
  • Overall approval by the Chief of Police

Applications received will be screened to ensure applicants possess the minimum qualifications and those who appear most suited for the program will be invited to an oral interview.
