Department Information:

The Human Resources Department provides City-wide support, including recruitment and selection, compensation and classification plans, health and welfare benefit administration, workers' compensation, labor relations, employee development, training and recognition programs, and the City-wide Safety program. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Benefits Administration
The department works with vendors to provide a variety of health and welfare plans to meet the needs of a diverse employee population.

Compensation and Classification
The department creates and revises position classifications to ensure an up-to-date classification plan; and to reflect changes in working environments, technology, job responsibilities, and organizational changes.

Employee Development and Training
The Human Resources department develops and implements a continuous, comprehensive City-wide training program that will prepare employees to meet the increasing service demands of the community.

Employee Recognition Programs
The department recognizes the achievements and positive actions of employees through our PRIDE award program, Annual Service Awards and Employee of the Year award.

Labor Relations
The Human Resources staff is responsible for the negotiation and administration of labor agreements with five employee groups. Staff provides guidance to managers on issues concerning implementation and administration of the labor agreements.

Recruitment and Selection
The department conducts recruitments as needed to fill position vacancies. All recruitments that are in competitive service require job-related testing which may include a written examination, oral board interviews, and a physical agility / performance examination.

Safety Program
In cooperation with the City's Risk Management Committee, the Human Resources department develops, implements and coordinates a continuous and comprehensive city-wide safety program to ensure the health and safety of the City's employees and to comply with Federal, State and local health and safety regulations.

Workers' Compensation
The department processes workers' compensation claims, establishes and maintains an ongoing partnership with the City's workers' compensation administrator and department representatives to manage injury claims.
