At the November 8, 2016 election, voters approved a one-half percent transactions and use (sales) tax in the City of Newark beginning on April 1, 2017. It is the policy of the City Council that the funds be directed towards the replacement of the Civic Center buildings.

The Transactions and Use Tax Oversight Committee reviews semi -annual revenue and expenditure reports and information related to the Transactions and Use Tax. The Committee will provide the City Council with an annual report.  The initial meeting is expected to occur in September 2018.
