Commissions & Committees
City Commissions and Committees play an important role in city government by serving in an advisory capacity to the City Council. Members provide input on a variety of issues that are crucial to maintaining our quality of life.
General requirements are that applicants must have an interest in civic involvement, and must be 18 years of age or older, a registered voter, and a resident of Newark (some committee or commission positions may have additional requirements.)

Alameda County Transportation Commission Vacancies
Paratransit Advisory and Planning Committee (PAPCO)
PAPCO makes decisions on transportation funding for seniors and people with disabilities to address planning and coordination issues regarding paratransit services in Alameda County. PAPCO members advise Alameda CTC on the development and implementation of paratransit programs, including a grant program. The City of Newark's appointee must be a Newark resident who uses transportation that supports seniors and people with disabilities. Members are appointed for a two-year term.
PAPCO is supported by a Paratransit Technical Advisory Committee comprised of Measure B funded paratransit providers in Alameda County. PAPCO generally meets on every fourth Monday of the month from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Alameda CTC offices in Oakland. Meetings are open to the public.

Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC)
The original citizens' group tasked with the oversight of Measure B, the CAC discusses local transportation needs and issues. CAC members serve as a liaison between the Alameda CTC and local communities and businesses in Alameda County on the implementation of Measure B programs and projects. The City of Newark's appointee must be a Newark resident and are appointed by the Commission for a two-year term, one member per Commission member.
CAC generally meets at locations throughout the county on the third Thursday of the month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Four times per year, the CAC hosts a transportation forum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., directly following the CAC meeting. All meetings are open to the public.
