The City Manager’s job is to carry out the policy goals of the City Council and to ensure that the City maintains services, programs, and facilities that meet the needs of the community in a fiscally responsible manner. Duties include the preparation of the Biennial Budget and Capital Improvement Plan, appointment of Department Heads and city staff, advising the City Council and implementing their direction, fostering community partnerships and intergovernmental relations, and managing the day-to-day operations of the city administration.
David J. Benoun
Mr. David J. Benoun was appointed City Manager by the Newark City Council in December 2018. He previously served as the City Attorney beginning in 2012. He graduated with distinction in general scholarship from the University of California at Berkeley and he earned a law degree from the University of San Francisco, School of Law.
