Bob Marshall was born and raised in Oakland, California. After graduation from high school in 1965, he served four years in the U. S. Navy and is a Vietnam Era veteran. Upon the conclusion of his military service, he matriculated at San Jose State University with studies in Real Estate and Urban Planning.
He has been a professional real estate appraiser for nearly 40 years. With stops in between as the owner of his own fee shop, he has been the San Francisco Regional Appraisal Manager for Gibraltar Savings; Chief Appraiser for Continental Savings of San Francisco; and for the past fourteen years, a Senior Appraiser with Fremont Bank.
Bob supervises the Residential Appraisal Review function for Fremont Bank for lending operations throughout California, Nevada, Oregon, and Arizona.
In addition to his professional career, Bob has been a dedicated community volunteer. He has served over the years as President of the Newark Jaycees, Newark Optimist Club, and the Newark Toastmasters; as Chairman of the Newark Planning Commission, Newark Educational Foundation, Newark Unified School District Excess Property (7/11) Committee, the Mowry Area Residents Association, the Lake and Rosemont Association; and the St. Edward’s School Board; as Secretary/Treasurer of the Fremont Symphony; and as the St. Edward’s CYO Athletic Director. Prior to serving on the Council, Bob was a 27-year member of the Newark City Planning Commission.
Bob has been married for 43 years to Laurie; is the father of three Newark Memorial High School Graduates, Cassandra, Scott and Melanie; and has been a resident of Newark since 1972.
